Cadogan Lodge members join SWAT Team!

Mike Davis, Secretray of Cadogan Lodge No. 8965 writes: “When I saw the word SWAT, I was a little concerned, but it actually stands for Sikh Welfare & Awareness Team.

NishkamSWAT is a 100% voluntary humanitarian-aid organisation founded in 2008 that look after the immediate needs of the street homeless. It serves at least 5000 meals a week in 24 locations in the UK, and 2 locations internationally, 32 times a week based on the concept of Langar (Free Community Kitchen) through the Sikh faith-based values of love, truth, compassion, forgiveness, contentment and humility. One outreach location in particular, Trafalgar Square in London sees at least 350 meals being served on some nights, 5 times a week. During these unprecedented times in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, NishkamSWAT has seen an increase in service users which has dramatically increased the amount of food, refreshments, clothing and blankets/sleeping bags needed.

W. Bro Gurminder Singh and his brother W. Bro Dharmender Singh of Cadogan Lodge form part of the team involved with helping others in need outside the town hall in Reading.

Not least, this requires going out in all weathers and setting up counters to provide food, drink, clothes and comfort to those sleeping rough, regardless of race or gender.

Donations of bottled water / crisps / biscuits, cereal bars / energy bars / food containers / soft drinks / energy drinks / hygiene products, are always apreciated.

If you require further information, please contact Gurminder or me.”
